2019 Nissan Altima Trims
The redesigned Nissan Altima has roared back to take on the competition in 2019, as it begins its sixth generation. With more technology, including both connectivity and active safety features, and a groundbreaking new variable compression turbo engine, it offers so much more than ever before. Engineering improvements have also lowered this sedan’s center of gravity, lending to a noticeably improved driving experience.
Its all-wheel drive variant also takes the crown as the most fuel-efficient all-wheel-drive vehicle in its segment. In fact, its biggest rivals – the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata, and more – don’t even come with AWD at any level. With eight trims to choose from, there is certainly an Altima for every driver. Let’s take a closer look at each of those choices here.
The S and SR
The most affordable Altima trims deliver excellent value with their impressive slate of standard features. The S gets cloth seats, an eight-way power driver’s seat, power exterior mirrors, an in-cabin microfilter, active grille shutters for optimal fuel economy, and the NissanConnect infotainment system with 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, and more. Active safety technology on this level includes intelligent forward collision warning, auto emergency braking, and a backup camera. The SR adds paddle shifters, a sport suspension, a blind spot warning, upgraded sport cloth seating, a leather-wrapped shifter knob and steering wheel, and faux carbon-fiber trim. They both have a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 188 horsepower (and achieves up to 28 mpg city and 39 mpg highway) and can be ordered with AWD.
The SR VC-Turbo
This exciting Altima trim, which like the SR has paddle shifters and a sport-tuned suspension, has a truly innovative powerplant, the world’s first variable compression turbo-charged engine. This highly advanced technology constantly makes precise adjustments to its compression ratio to bring out the most power with ultimate efficiency (as much as 25 mpg city and 34 mpg highway). This 2.0-liter four-cylinder puts out 248 hp and 273 lb.-ft. of torque for a satisfyingly sporty ride. The SR VC-Turbo is only offered in front-wheel drive.
The SV and SL
The SV ups the safety factor by adding pedestrian detection to its automatic emergency braking, plus it receives intelligent lane intervention and ProPILOT Assist technology, which keeps the Altima centered in its lane and maintains a safe following distance from the vehicle ahead. Its luxuries include a power moonroof. The SL adds Nissan’s navigation system, leather seats, a power front passenger seat, and an upgraded (Bose) audio system.
The Platinum and Platinum VC-Turbo
These premium trims add more bells and whistles, including a surround-view monitor, interior ambient lighting, memory feature on the driver’s seat, and beautiful 19-inch alloy wheels. The VC-Turbo trim of course gets the all-new, innovative variable compression turbo engine discussed above in the SR VC-Turbo section.
The ONE VC-Turbo
The very special ONE VC-Turbo stands out as the only Altima trim to receive Nissan Concierge Service, which provides its buyers with a 24-hour live assistant to help them make reservations (and even make dining recommendations) and travel arrangements, plus provide wake-up calls, gift suggestions, product reviews, directory assistance, and weather information. As far as equipment, the ONE VC-Turbo gets puddle lights, special badging, and a rear spoiler.
