Whether it’s used for daily city driving or adventuring over rough rough terrain, there is a Nissan Frontier for every situation.

Trims and Mechanical Features

The Frontier comes in six trim levels – S, SV, Desert Runner, Midnight Edition, PRO-4X, and SL – with crew cab, king cab, and crew cab configurations and long-bed availability. The engine choices are the base 2.5-liter 4-cylinder and the 4.0-liter V6; both rear-wheel and four-wheel drive are available. The 4-cylinder engine is rated by the EPA to achieve 17 mpg around town and 22 mpg on the highway, while the 6-cylinder closely follows with an EPA-rated 16 mpg city and 23 mpg highway. The base S comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen display, rearview camera, cloth seats, and 15-inch steel wheels. The SV receives power windows and locks, remote keyless entry, and 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels. The SV is also available in the Midnight Edition, which includes black exterior trim and black 18-inch alloy wheels. For the more adventurous, the Frontier Desert Runner is suited for rougher terrain with off-road shock absorbers, all-terrain tires, and fog lights. While it’s similar to the Desert Runner, the Pro-4x includes a smaller 5.8 touchscreen with Nissan’s navigation system, skid plates, and dual-zone automatic temperature control with in-cabin microfilter. The highest-tier SL trim is designed more for daily driving on streets than off-roading. This model receives 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, leather seats, and the luxury Rockford Fosgate audio system with ten speakers and subwoofer.

Safety and Technology

As its rugged appearance suggests, the Frontier is a vehicle made to protect its occupants. Standard features on all trims include Nissan’s advanced airbag system with dual-stage supplemental front airbags, vehicle dynamic control with traction control system, anti-lock brakes, electronic brake force distribution, a tire pressure monitoring system, and rearview monitor. Nissan also prides itself with its zone body construction and strategically engineered crumple zones to reinforce the Frontier’s body and protect all passengers in the event of a collision.
