2019 Nissan Rogue
Well into its second generation, the 2019 Rogue is set to continue its track as Nissan’s top-selling model for another year, as well as one of the top-selling vehicles overall in the country. With a lot of strong competition in the smaller crossover segment, the Rogue is able to distinguish itself from its competition with a competitive price point, spacious interior, comfortable driving experience, and availability of hybrid versions.
The ‘19 Rogue uses a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 170 horsepower, which is plenty for everyday driving needs. Fuel economy for the front-wheel drive is rated by the EPA at 26 mpg city and 33 highway. New England drivers, who have to deal with snowy winters, will likely prefer the AWD Rogue, which returns 25 city mpg and 32 highway mpg. The other powertrain option is for the SV Hybrid and SL Hybrid trims, which use a 2.0-liter gasoline engine working in conjunction with an electric motor. Both engines use the continuously variable automatic transmission and are available either in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
Trims and Standard Features
The ‘19 Rogue is available in five trim levels: the S, SV, SV Hybrid, SL, and SL Hybrid. The base S offers cloth upholstery with durable hard plastic and carpeted flooring, plus the safety features of Intelligent Lane Intervention, auto emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and LED daytime running lights. Go one trim level up to the SV and you’ll get power-adjustable heated seats, dual-zone climate control, a motion-activated liftgate, remote start, and rear automatic braking. For a taste of luxury, Rogue buyers can opt for the SL, which comes with leather upholstery, navigation, intelligent cruise control, the Bose audio system, and ProPilot Assist.
Standard roof rails on all but the base trim make it easy to carry recreational equipment or excess cargo on road trips. The optional Special Edition Package adds 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter knob, heated front seats, chrome exterior and interior accents, and heated side mirrors with integrated turn signals. The Premium Package tacks on 18-inch alloy wheels, an electronic parking brake, rear cross-traffic alert, and ProPilot Assist, which helps the driver stay safe in stop-and-go highway traffic.
Safety and Technology
The base Rogue offers a fair amount of standard technology equipment: a basic audio/information system with Bluetooth and USB port, a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, Standard safety equipment includes blind-spot monitoring, Intelligent Lane Intervention, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, a rearview camera, and the Rear Door Alert system.
